“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”

1. Choose sustainable transport
Use public transport like Morebus walk more, cycle, or car-share whenever possible. Walking not only reduces emissions and noise but also improves health and wellbeing.
Plan your journey, hop on the bus, and check how much CO₂ you can save!
2. Reduce single-use plastic
Use reusable bottles, cups, lunch boxes and shopping bags. Look out for refill stations and plastic-free events on campus and in your local community.
You can also buy a reusable cup on campus and help support the BournemouthUni Food sustainability campaign.
3. Save energy
Switch off lights, computers and chargers when not in use.
Use energy-saving settings in shared spaces and accommodation, and support BCP energy-saving initiatives by using facilities responsibly across campus and in the local area.
4. Get involved in local clean-ups
Taking part in clean-up activities protects nature, reduces pollution and encourages people to care for their environment.
You can also get involved with Nimsdai Foundation, which organises litter picking initiatives and supports global clean-up efforts in the world’s highest mountains.
Why does it matter globally?
The Amazon rainforest helps regulate the Earth’s climate, stores carbon, and supports biodiversity. When it is damaged, the impact is felt worldwide through climate change, extreme weather, and environmental loss. Supporting organisations such as the Saving the Amazon Foundation helps protect this vital ecosystem.
Small actions matter! When individuals and communities reduce waste, save energy, and make more sustainable choices, they lower their impact on the planet.
When many people do this together, local actions create global change.
Our online campaign
On 12 March 2026 at 7pm, we successfully launched our Instagram campaign on @beyougrow.
Through audience engagement, comments and tagged entries, we selected participants and planted 10 Amazon trees in partnership with the Saving the Amazon Foundation.
Each tree was planted in the participant’s name, with a tracked map provided to show its location.
This initiative encouraged participation and demonstrated that small actions can create real impact.
