1. Caring for Our Planet
Looking after our planet starts with small actions.
One simple but powerful way to help is litter picking. When people work together to clean their local environment, they protect nature, wildlife, and their communities.
A great example is the work of the Nimsdai Foundation.
During their first Trash Trek community litter pick on 1 February 2026, volunteers removed over 175 kg of waste from the streets of Bournemouth in just 1.5 hours.
Families, children, and first-time volunteers all joined the effort, showing how collective action can make a real difference.
2. Travel smarter with MoreBus
Choosing the bus instead of driving is a simple way to support a more sustainable future. Even one journey by bus can help reduce traffic and lower emissions.
Did you know that travelling from Bournemouth Train Station to BU Talbot Campus by bus saves 505g of CO₂ compared to driving? That is the same as keeping a lightbulb on for 142 hours.

3. Eat In. Cut Waste. Reuse.
BU Food is working with the Bournemouth University Sustainability Team to encourage simple actions that help reduce waste on campus.
If you are having lunch in Fusion or another BU Food outlet and staying in the building, your food can be served on reusable crockery instead of disposable packaging. Choosing to eat in helps reduce single-use waste and supports the university’s sustainability goals.
Our campus is large and busy. Every day thousands of drinks and meals are served across BU Food outlets. Imagine the impact if each of us made one small sustainable choice.

Primary School takes part in the campaign
Pupils from Year 2 at St Walburga's Primary School in Bournemouth took part in our campaign. The children coloured our activity sheets and learned about simple choices that can help protect the environment.
It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and creativity. Small actions can make a big difference, and it is inspiring to see young people already thinking about the planet.
